Say “I Love You” Like An American | Deep Love English

Say I love you like an American

There’s textbook English… and then there’s the way Americans actually say “I love you.”

In this episode of Relationship English, Shameem sits down with Emma from the USA to break down real, emotional, everyday love English — not the stiff lines from a grammar book, but the words people actually whisper, text, and promise in real life.

And our inspiration? The Fault in Our Stars (2014) — a story about loving bravely, even when you know it might hurt.

Because in American English, deep love isn’t about big, fancy words. It’s about simple words with big feelings behind them.

Let’s learn them the way natives really use them.

  1. I got you
This is more than “I love you.” It means: I promise to take care of you.
It’s not just a feeling. It’s an action. It’s “You can lean on me. I’m here.”
Example: “Hey, don’t worry. I got you.”

2. I’m falling for you

Love doesn’t always hit you like lightning. Sometimes it happens slowly.
You’re falling… and you didn’t even plan it.
Example: “I didn’t expect this, but I’m falling for you.”

3. I’m head over heels for you

When love completely flips your world upside down. You’re totally gone for someone. In the best way.
Example: “I’m head over heels for you, and I can’t help it.”

4. I choose you

This one is powerful.
In America, we often say love isn’t just fate. It’s a daily decision. Every morning, you choose that person again.
Example: “It’s not just fate. I choose you. Every day.”

5. I’m not going anywhere

This is the real promise of loyalty. Not “forever” in a fairy tale way — but “I’m staying, even when it’s hard.”
Example: “Even on the tough days, I’m not going anywhere.”

6. You get me

You understand me without me having to explain everything. You just know.
Example: “I don’t have to pretend with you. You get me.”

7. I feel safe with you

This is about vulnerability. Being your real self — no mask, no fear.
Example: “With you, I can finally be myself. I feel safe with you.”

8. The Big Ones — Say Them Slowly

These are the lines that hit the heart:

You are my home
You light up my world
You are my person
You have my whole heart

You don’t need perfect grammar to say these. You just need to be present. Be honest. Be brave enough to say it out loud.

So, Which Team Are You?

Here’s our debate question for you:

Team Forever vs. Team I Choose You — Which one hits harder for you?

“Forever” sounds romantic and eternal.
“I choose you” sounds real, loyal, and intentional.
