 তামাদি বা লিমিটেশন Limitation কাকে বলে? তামাদি শব্দটি আরবী ভাষা থেকে উদ্ভূত যার অর্থ বিলুপ্ত হওয়া বা বাধা প্রাপ্ত হওয়া। এর ইংরেজি প্রতিশব্দ limitation যার অর্থ সীমাবদ্ধতা।যে কোন মামলা মোকদ্দমা দায়ের করার একটি নির্দিষ্ট সময় আছে। এই সময়ের বর্ণনা তামাদি আইনের (১৯০৮) প্রথম তফসিলে উল্লেখ করা হয়েছে। প্রথম তপশিল বর্ণিত সময়ের মধ্যে মামলা, আপিল, দরখাস্ত ইত্যাদি করতে হয়।এই সময়ের মধ্যে মামলা দায়ের না করলে আদালত তা খারিজ করে দেয়। এটি হলো তামাদি সময়। সুতরাং কোনো মোকদ্দমা, আপিল, রিভিউ, রিভিশন বা অন্যান্য দরখাস্ত কত দিনের মধ্যে আদালতে পেশ করতে হবে তা যে আইন দ্বারা নিয়ন্ত্রিত হয় তাকেই তামাদি আইন বলে। তামাদি আইনের উদ্দেশ্য তামাদি আইনের বিধান হলো নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের মধ্যে কোন প্রতিকার এর প্রার্থনা করা। কেউ যদি নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের মধ্যে তার প্রতিকার না চায় তাহলে সংশ্লিষ্ট বিষয়ে তার অধিকার নেই বলে তামাদি আইন ধরে নেয়। এজন্য তামাদি আইন সকলকে নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের মধ্যে বিচার প্রার্থনার জন্য উদ্বুদ্ধ করে। তামাদি আইনের অন্যতম উদ্দেশ্য হলো ন্যায় বিচার প্রতিষ্ঠা করা। কোন বিচার প্রার্থনা ক্ষেত্রে যত বি
