Essay - Child Labour

Introduction: Bangladesh is a small country with growing problems. Among all problems, child labour is a great one. The problem has spread its evil clutch all over the country. It is going from bad to worse. All are getting concerned with this problem.

Child labour: The labour done by a child is called child labour. It is increasing. It is very inhuman. It is disappointing. The children of poor families, the street children and the orphans are the victims of it. They are involved in many chores. They do domestic jobs. They work in industries, garment factories, hotels and in many other places. Many of them beg. Many break bricks. They also sell nuts, flowers, betel leaves, torn papers, clothes etc. Some glean plastic materials, torn shoes, torn paper etc. Many children polish boots. Sometimes they do risky jobs. Yet, they are unpaid. For money, they are often involved in illegal activities. They are used for smuggling and supply of drugs. Thus they struggle to live. Yet, the society is cruel to them. It has no mercy for them. Sometimes they are bitterly beaten.

  Deprivation: The working children are deprived of all basic rights. They do not get proper food. They suffer from malnutrition. They cannot go to school at all. So they are deprived of education. They have no recreation in life. They have no access to clothes, accommodation and treatment. The society looks upon down them. In fact, they are just a burden.

Causes: There are many causes behind child labour. The first and foremost cause is huge population. This small country cannot support its huge population. It cannot provide its children with all facilities. The next cause is poverty. The poor parents cannot send their children to school. They want their children to help them in work. Another cause is the negligence of some parents. These parents leave their children on the streets. The mysterious silence of the government is a vital cause too. The child labour is increasing at an alarming rate. But the government remains silent. Illegal relation and social unrest are also responsible.

Effects: The effects of the child labour are many. It shows that the country is not a civilized one. We are not well- behaved. We have lost our human qualities. For child labour, the country is lagging behind. Today's children are the future of the nation. If they are not educated, there will be no hope for us. Snatching and smuggling are also increasing for it.

Ways of solution: Our population must be controlled first. Poverty must be alleviated. National wealth must be distributed equally. The working children must be taken back to education. They must be rehabilitated. Public awareness is also necessary. The electronic and print media can play a vital role to solve the problem.

Conclusion: In fine, we can say that child labour is a great problem. It should be sloved at any cost. It is high time to solve the problem. Conscious people should work together with the government in this regard. Otherwise, we all fall into a great danger.

ভূমিকা : বাংলাদেশ বাড়ন্ত সমস্যাসংকুল একটি ক্ষুদ্র দেশ। সকল সমস্যার মধ্যে শিশু শ্রম অন্যতম একটি। সমস্যাটি সমগ্র দেশে অতি সংকটজনকভাবে বিস্তার করছে। এটা মন্দ থেকে অধিকতর মন্দের দিকে ধাবিত হচ্ছে। সকলে এ সমস্যা নিয়ে উদ্বিগ্ন ।

শিশুশ্রম : শিশুদের দিয়ে যে পরিশ্রম করানো হয় তাকে শিশুশ্রম বলে। এটি বৃদ্ধি পাচ্ছে। এটা খুবই অমানবিক। এটা হতাশজনক। গরিব পরিবারের শিশু, পথ শিশু এবং এতিম শিশুরা এর শিকার। তারা অনেক কাজে জড়িয়ে পড়ে। তারা গৃহস্থালির কাজ করে। তারা শিল্প কারখানা, গার্মেন্টস কারখানা, হোটেল এবং অন্যান্য স্থানে কাজ করে। তাদের মধ্যে অনেকে ভিক্ষা করে। অনেকে ইট ভাঙে। তারা বাদাম, ফুল, পান, ছেঁড়া কাগজ, কাপড়-চোপড় প্রভৃতিও বিক্রি করে। কেউ প্লাস্টিকের মালামাল, ছেঁড়াজুতা, ছেঁড়া কাগজ প্রভৃতি সংগ্রহ করে। অনেক শিশু জুতা পালিস করে। মাঝে মাঝে তারা ঝুঁকিপূর্ণ কাজ করে। যদিও তাদের বেতন পরিশোধ করা হয় না। তারা টাকার জন্য প্রায় অবৈধ কাজে জড়িয়ে পড়ে। তাদেরকে চোরাকারবারী এবং মাদক সরবরাহ করতে ব্যবহার করা হয়। তারা বাঁচার জন্য এভাবে সংগ্রাম করে। তবুও সমাজ তাদের উপর নিষ্ঠুর আচরণ করে। তাদের জন্য কোন করুণা করা হয় না। মাঝে মাঝে তাদেরকে প্রচণ্ডভাবে শারীরিক নির্যাতন করা হয়।

বঞ্চনা : কর্মরত শিশুরা সকল মৌলিক অধিকার থেকে বঞ্চিত। তাদেরকে উপযুক্ত খাবার দেওয়া হয় না। তারা অপুষ্টিতে ভোগে। তারা আদৌ স্কুলে যেতে পারে না। সুতরাং তারা শিক্ষা থেকে বঞ্চিত হয়। তাদের জীবনে কোন বিনোদন নেই। তাদের কোন পোশাক, থাকার জায়াগা এবং চিকিৎসার সুবিধা নেই। সমাজ তাদেরকে উপেক্ষা করে। প্রকৃতপক্ষে, তারা সমাজের বোঝামাত্র। কারণ : শিশু শ্রমের পিছনে অনেকগুলো কারণ রয়েছে। প্রথম এবং প্রধান কারণ হলো বিপুল জনসংখ্যা। এই ক্ষুদ্র দেশ এর বিপুল জনসংখ্যাকে ভরণপোষণ করতে পারে না। দেশ এর শিশুদের সকল সুযোগ সুবিধার যোগান দিতে পারে না। পরবর্তী কারণ হলো দরিদ্রতা। গরিব পিতামাতা তাদের শিশুদের স্কুলে পাঠাতে পারে না। তারা তাদের কাজে ছেলেমেয়েদের সাহায্য পেতে চায়। অন্য কারণ হলো অনেক পিতামাতার অবহেলা। এই পিতামাতা তাদের শিশুদের রাস্তায় ছেড়ে দেয়। সরকারের রহস্যময়ী নিস্তব্ধতাও একটা গুরুত্বপূর্ণ কারণ। শিশুশ্রম আশঙ্কাজনক হারে বেড়ে যাচ্ছে। কিন্তু সরকার নিরব রয়েছে। এর জন্য অবৈধ সম্পর্ক এবং সামাজিক অস্থিরতাও দায়ী।

ফলাফল : শিশুদের শ্রমের প্রভাব অনেক। এটা দেখায় যে একটা দেশ সভ্য নয়। আমরা ভদ্র নই। আমরা আমাদের মানবিক গুণাবলি হারিয়েছি। শিশু শ্রমের জন্য দেশ পিছিয়ে যাচ্ছে। আজকের শিশু জাতির ভবিষ্যৎ। যদি তারা - শিক্ষিত না হয়, আমাদের কোন সাফল্যের আশা থাকবে না। এরজন্য ছিনতাই ও চোরাচালানী বৃদ্ধি পেতে পারে।

সমাধানের উপায় : অবশ্যই প্রথমে আমাদের জনসংখ্যা নিয়ন্ত্রণ করতে হবে। দারিদ্র্য বিমোচন করতে হবে। জাতীয় সম্পদ সমান ভাবে বণ্টন করতে হবে। কর্মরত শিশুদের শিক্ষা অভিমুখে ফিরিয়ে আনতে হবে। তাদেরকে পুনর্বাসন করতে হবে। গণসচেতনতাও প্রয়োজন । এ সমস্যা সমাধান করতে ইলেকটনিক এবং প্রচার মাধ্যমগুলোকে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ ভূমিকা পালন করতে পারে।

উপসংহার : পরিশেষে, আমরা বলতে পারি যে শিশুশ্রম একটি বড় সমস্যা। যে কোন প্রকারে এ সমস্যার সমাধান করা উচিত। সমস্যাটি সমাধান করার এটাই উপযুক্ত সময়। এ বিষয়ে সচেতন নাগরিকদের সরকারের সাথে একত্রে কাজ করা উচিত। অন্যথায় আমরা অত্যন্ত বিপদের মুখে পতিত হবো।
