Hazrat Shahjalal Mazar, situated in the enchanting city of Sylhet in Bangladesh, holds great significance as it is home to the sacred resting place of an esteemed and revered Muslim saint, widely renowned throughout the region for his immense piety and spiritual teachings.
The history of Hazrat Shahjalal Mazar Sharif dates back to the year 1341 AD, when the renowned Sufi, Shahajalal, was born in Yemen. Having gained significant recognition, Shahajalal became one of the most revered spiritual leaders in the Indian Subcontinent. Known by his full name, Jalal Kuniat Mujdarat, he embarked on a mission to spread the teachings of Islam in the region at the age of 32. With a considerable number of devoted followers, Shahajalal's influence extended far and wide, as his disciples ventured to different parts of the subcontinent to propagate the faith. The city of Sylhet, where Hazrat Shahjalal Mazar Sharif is located, boasts approximately 360 graves of various saints, earning it the title of Pobitro Nogori or the Blessed land. This rich historical significance and spiritual heritage have contributed to the prominence and reverence of Hazrat Shahjalal Mazar Sharif among believers and visitors alike.
Hazrat Shahjalal Mazar boasts several notable tourist attractions, including separate prayer rooms for men and women, a grand main gate known as the Dargah Gate, and a vibrant community of pigeons that visitors enjoy feeding. Additionally, the Mazar features a historic mosque that dates back 1400 years and was reconstructed in 1744. Adjacent to Hazrat Shahjalal's grave, there is a cemetery where many of his followers are buried.
To reach the Mazar, which is located approximately 238 kilometers from Dhaka, you can take the Sylhet Highway, which will likely take you around 5 hours to arrive at the destination. Once you reach the main city of Sylhet, you will need to travel approximately 1 kilometer from the Sylhet central town to reach the spot, which should take you around 10 to 12 minutes to complete the journey.
If you choose to travel by bus from Dhaka, your journey will lead you to the Kadamtoli bus station located in Sylhet. Upon arrival at the bus station, you will have a plethora of transportation options at your disposal to conveniently reach your desired destination.
