Dignity of Labour

Introduction: There is a good saying, "Life is short, but art is long." We are surrounded with work and we have to cross a long path full of our duties and work. The sun, the moon, the stars and the the group of stars are moving on and on. Similarly every living being from tiny insect to the large elephant is working for their existence and growth. We take lessons from nature, nature is not still. Man is moving with the passage of time to the endless journey.

Importance of labour: All of us  know that industry is the mother of good luck. Allah has provided us hands to work with. The great souls of the world used to do their work with their hands. We have our needs, hunger and dreams for prospect. We have to earn money to meet the cost of our daily necessaries. Labour occupies our work ranging from the space to the deep sea. Without labour, we would not have food, clothes and shelter. But a man should undergo labour honestly and do his work faithfully. Samuel Smiles moralizes, "It is not a disgrace to be a shoemaker. But it is certainly a great disgrace to make bad shoes." So if we exert labour, we may get confidence in return.

Importance of labour in national development: In our national life, importance of labour is undeniable. An idle nation can never prosper. The world is colourful and labour is essential to ensure success in every sphere of life. From top to bottom, lower class to higher class, all people should do labour for the overall development of the nation. The ten fingers of a man are his greatest friends. He is embellished with honour and fame by virtue of his work.

Our attitude to labour: If we realise the importance of labour in our human life, we will have a readier appreciation of the dignity of labour. Without labour nothing is brought to life. It is absolutely correct written in an ancient Jewish book. "Every carpenter and work master that laboureth night and day; the smith also by the anvil; the potter sitting at his work; all these trust to his hand, and everyone is wise in his work. Without these a city cannot be inhabited."

Conclusion: In conclusion, it is said that honest work of all kinds is dignified and worthy of respect. Even an employee of modest profession ought to be respected instead of being regarded with hatred. The only things we should be ashamed of are idleness and trying to live by without labour. There is a saying that, "Work is worship and to work is to pray." We should always remember that an honest workman stands high in honour:

"His brow is wet with honest sweat,

He earns whatever he can;

And looks the whole world in the face,

For he owes not any man."

ভূমিকা: একটি প্রবাদ বাকা আছে, "জীবন সংক্ষিপ্ত, কিন্তু শিল্প দীর্ঘ।" আমরা কাজ দ্বারা পরিবেষ্টিত এবং আমাদেরকে দায়িত্ব কর্তবা ও কাজে পরিপূর্ণ দীর্ঘ পথ পাড়ি দিতে হয়। সূর্য, চন্দ্র, তারকারাজি চলছে আর চলছে। একইভাবে ছোটো কীট থেকে শুরু করে বৃহৎ হাতি সকল জীব তাদের অস্তিত্ব এবং বৃদ্ধির জন্য কাজ করে যাচ্ছে। আমরা প্রকৃতি থেকে শিক্ষা নিই, প্রকৃতি স্থির নয়। মানুষ সময় অতিক্রমের সাথে সাথে অসীম যাত্রার দিকে অগ্রসর হচ্ছে।

শ্রমের প্রয়োজনীয়তা: আমরা সকলেই জানি যে, পরিশ্রম সৌভাগ্যের প্রসূতি। আল্লাহ আমাদের হাত দিয়েছেন কাজ করার জন্য। পৃথিবীর মহান ব্যক্তিগণ সকলেই নিজের হাতে কাজ করতেন। আমাদের চাহিদা, ক্ষুধা এবং ভবিষ্যতের স্বপ্ন রয়েছে। আমাদের অর্থ উপার্জন করতে হয় প্রাত্যহিক জীবনের প্রয়োজনীয় জিনিসপত্রের খরচ মেটানোর জন্য। শ্রম বলতে বোঝায় কাজ যা মহাশূন্য থেকে গভীর মহাসাগর পর্যন্ত বিস্তৃত। শ্রম ছাড়া আমরা আমাদের খাদ্য, বস্তু এবং আশ্রয় পেতাম না। কিন্তু একজন মানুষকে সততার সাথে পরিশ্রম করা উচিত এবং তার কাজ বিশ্বস্ততার সাথে করা উচিত। স্যামুয়েল স্মাইলস বলেছেন, “মুচি হওয়া অপমানের নয়। কিন্তু খারাপ জুতা তৈরি করা সত্যিই খুবই অপমানজনক।” তাই আমরা যদি শ্রম প্রয়োগ করি, তাহলে আমরা বিনিময়ে আত্মবিশ্বাস লাভ করতে পারব।

জাতীয় উন্নয়নে শ্রমের প্রয়োজনীয়তা: আমাদের জাতীয় জীবনে শ্রমের প্রয়োজনীয়তা অনস্বীকার্য। একটি অলস জাতি কোনোদিন উন্নতি করতে পারে না। পৃথিবী রঙিন এবং জীবনের প্রতিটি ক্ষেত্রে সাফল্য নিশ্চিত করার জন্য শ্রম প্রয়োজনীয়। শীর্ষ থেকে নিচ, নিচু শ্রেণি থেকে উঁচু শ্রেণি, সকল মানুষকে জাতির সার্বিক উন্নতির জন্য শ্রম দিতে হবে। মানুষের শ্রেষ্ঠ বন্ধু হলো তার দশটা আঙুল। সে সম্মান এবং খ্যাতি দ্বারা অলংকৃত হয় তার কাজের গুণে।

শ্রমের প্রতি আমাদের দৃষ্টিভঙ্গি: আমরা যদি মানবজীবনে শ্রমের প্রয়োজনীয়তা উপলব্ধি করতে পারি, তাহলে আমরা দ্রুত শ্রমের মর্যাদার স্বীকৃতি পাব। শ্রম ছাড়া জীবনে কিছুই অর্জিত হয় না। একটি প্রাচীন ইহুদি বইয়ে যথার্থই লেখা আছে, “প্রত্যেক ছুতার এবং কাজের মালিক যারা দিনরাত পরিশ্রম করে, কামার তার নেহাইয়ের পাশে বসে কাজ করে, কুমার তার কাজ নিয়ে বসে, এদের সকলের তাদের হাতের প্রতি বিশ্বাস রয়েছে এবং প্রত্যেকেই তাদের নিজ কাজের ব্যাপারে সচেতন। এদের ছাড়া কোনো শহরে বসবাস করা সম্ভব নয়। "

উপসংহার: পরিশেষে, এটা বলা যায় সকল সৎ কাজ গৌরবান্বিত এবং সম্মানের যোগ্য। এমনকি নিচু পেশাব কর্মচারীকে ঘৃণার দৃষ্টিতে বিবেচনা না করে সম্মানের চোখে দেখা উচিত। শুধুমাত্র যে জিনিসগুলোর ব্যাপারে আমাদের লজ্জা পাওয়া উচিত, তা হলো অলসতা ও শ্রম ছাড়া বেঁচে থাকার চেষ্টা করা। একটা প্রবাদ আছে যে, “কাজ হচ্ছে ইবাদত এবং কাজ করাই হচ্ছে ইবাদত করা।" আমাদের সবসময় মনে রাখতে হবে যে, একজন সৎ পরিশ্রমী ব্যক্তি সম্মানের সাথে মাথা উঁচু করে দাঁড়ায়।

“তার ভ্রু সততার ঘামে সিক্ত,
সে আয় করে যাহাই সে পারে,
এবং সে তার মুখমণ্ডলেই সমস্ত পৃথিবী দেখে,
কারণ সে কোনো মানুষের কাছে ঋণী নয়।"
