Compulsory Primary Education
Introduction: It is a universal truth that is the backbone of a nation, and primary education is the basis of all education. Controversy exists on different topics but there is no controversy about education. There is no alternative to education. Education is the process that develops our mind. It is a mental and intellectual training. It is education that differentiates a man from an animal.
Its importance: Education makes a man a real man in the real sense of the term. In this modern world, both man and woman should receive education. Life without education is meaningless. To make life meaningful, education is a must. The majority of the people of Bangladesh are illiterate. This is a curse for the nation. To be an educated nation, we must give emphasis to the primary education.
Its present condition: But it is an irony of fate that primary education is in a deplorable state. There are no necessary materials in the school. Classes are held in the dilapidated buildings. In many rural areas, because of the shortage of the classrooms, the classes are held under the open sky. There is no requisite number of teachers in the primary schools.
Measures to be taken: If we look at the developed countries, we find that the root of their development is education. An educated nation can take the country to the highest peak of development. The illiterate poor people are not inclined to send their children to schools. Awareness about education among the mass people should be created through the mass media. They should be encouraged to send their children to school. At the same time, books and school dress along with other materials should be supplied free of cost. In this connection, a literacy campaign may be launched to generate awareness among the people. The people from all walks of life should participate in this programme.
Conclusion: Everybody should realize that education is light. Then we can expect that the darkness of ignorance will disappear from the country. Primary education can play a pioneering role in this regard. And it must get top priority from the government.

রচনা - বাধ্যতামূলক প্রাথমিক শিক্ষা
ভূমিকা : একটি সর্বজনীন সত্য যে শিক্ষা একটি জাতির মেরুদণ্ড এবং প্রাথমিক শিক্ষা সব শিক্ষার ভিত্তি। বিভিন্ন বিষয়ে বিতর্ক বিদ্যমান কিন্তু শিক্ষা সম্পর্কে কোনো বিতর্ক নেই। শিক্ষার কোনো বিকল্প নেই। শিক্ষা সেই প্রক্রিয়া যা আমাদের মনকে উন্নত করে। এটি মানসিক ও বুদ্ধিবৃত্তিক প্রশিক্ষণ। শিক্ষাই পশু থেকে একজন মানুষকে পৃথক করে।
এর গুরুত্ব : শিক্ষা শব্দটির ভাবার্থ মতে শিক্ষা একজন মানুষকে প্রকৃত মানুষ করে তোলে। এই আধুনিক জগতে পুরুষ ও মহিলা উভয়েরই শিক্ষা গ্রহণ করা উচিত। শিক্ষা ছাড়া জীবন অর্থহীন। জীবনকে অর্থপূর্ণ করতে শিক্ষা অত্যাবশ্যকীয়। বাংলাদেশের অধিকাংশ মানুষ অশিক্ষিত। এটা জাতির অন্য একটি অভিশাপ। একটি শিক্ষিত জাতি হওয়ার জন্যে আমাদেরকে অবশ্যই প্রাথমিক শিক্ষায় জোর দিতে হবে।
এর বর্তমান অবস্থা : কিন্তু এটা ভাগ্যের একটি পরিহাস যে, প্রাথমিক শিক্ষা একটি শোচনীয় অবস্থায় আছে। স্কুলে প্রয়োজনীয় উপকরণ নেই। শ্রেণি কার্যক্রম ভাঙাচোরা ভবনগুলোতে অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। অনেক গ্রামাঞ্চলে, শ্রেণিকক্ষের অভাবের কারণে খোলা আকাশের নিচে শ্রেণি কার্যক্রম অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। প্রাথমিক স্কুলে প্রয়োজনীয় সংখ্যক শিক্ষক নেই।
গ্রহণীয় ব্যবস্থাসমূহ : যদি আমরা উন্নত দেশগুলোর দিকে তাকাই আমরা দেখতে পাই যে, তাদের উন্নয়নের মূল হচ্ছে শিক্ষা। একটি শিক্ষিত জাতি দেশকে উন্নয়নের সর্বোচ্চ শিখরে নিয়ে যেতে পারে। অশিক্ষিত দরিদ্র মানুষ তাদের সন্তানদের স্কুলে পাঠাতে ইচ্ছুক নয়। গণমাধ্যমের মাধ্যমে জনসাধারণের মধ্যে শিক্ষার বিষয়ে সচেতনতা তৈরি করা উচিত। তাদের সন্তানদের স্কুলে পাঠাতে তাদের উৎসাহিত করা উচিত। একই সময়ে অন্যান্য উপকরণসহ বই ও স্কুলের পোশাক বিনামূল্যে সরবরাহ করা উচিত। এ ব্যাপারে জনগণের মধ্যে সচেতনতা সৃষ্টি করার জন্য একটি সাক্ষরতা অভিযান চালু করা যেতে পারে। এই কর্মসূচিতে সমাজের সকল স্তরের মানুষের অংশগ্রহণ করা উচিত।
উপসংহার : সবাইকে বুঝতে হবে যে, শিক্ষাই আলো। তারপর আমরা আশা করতে পারি যে, অজ্ঞতার অন্ধকার দেশ থেকে দূরীভূত হবে। প্রাথমিক শিক্ষা এই বিষয়ে অগ্রণী ভূমিকা পালন করতে পারে। আর সরকার থেকে এটিকে সর্বোচ্চ অগ্রাধিকার দিতে হবে।
