Pahela Baishakh

Pahela Baishakh is the part of our culture. It is the first day in Bangla calendar. This day is celebrated throughout the country. The main programme of this day is held in Ramna Botamul. Different socio-cultural organizations celebrate this day with due solemnity. People of all sorts of ages and lives attend this function. Colourful processions are brought out. Watery rice and hilsha fish are served during this function. Women and children put on traditional dresses. The whole country wears a festive look. Different cultural programmes are arranged where singers sing traditional bangla songs. Discussion meetings are held. Radio and television put on special programmes. Newspapers and dailies publish supplementary. Fairs are held here and there on this occasion. Shopkeepers and traders arrange ‘halk hata’ and sweet-meats are distributed. In villages, people go to others’ houses and exchange greetings. Thus Pahela Baishakh expresses our Bengali tradition, peace and unity.

 পহেলা বৈশাখ আমাদের সংস্কৃতির অংশ। এটি বাংলা পঞ্জিকার প্রথম দিন। সমগ্র দেশব্যাপি এই দিনটি উদযাপিত হয়। এই দিবসের প্রধান অনুষ্ঠানটি অনুষ্ঠিত হয় রমনা বটমূলে। বিভিন্ন সামাজিক, সাংস্কৃতিক সংস্থা যথাযোগ্য ভাবগাম্ভীর্যের সাথে এই দিবসটি উদযাপন করে। সব বয়সী ও জীবনযাত্রার মানুষ এই অনুষ্ঠানে উপস্থিত থাকে। বর্ণাঢ্য শোভাযাত্রা বের করা হয়। এই অনুষ্ঠানব্যাপী পান্তাভাত ও ইলিশ মাছ পরিবেশন করা হয়। মহিলা ও শিশুরা ঐতিহ্যগত পোশাক পরিধান করে। সমগ্র দেশ উৎসবোচিত রূপ ধারণ করে। বিভিন্ন সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠানের ব্যবস্থা করা হয়। সেখানে সংগীত শিল্পীরা ঐতিহ্যগত বাংলা গান পরিবেশন করে। আলোচনা সভা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। বেতার ও দূরদর্শন বিশেষ অনুষ্ঠান সম্প্রচার করে। সংবাদপত্র ও দৈনিক পত্রিকা ক্রোড়পত্র প্রকাশ করে। এই উপলক্ষে এখানে সেখানে মেলা অনুষ্ঠিত হয়। দোকানদার ও ব্যবসায়ীরা হালখাতার আয়োজন করে এবং মিষ্টি বিতরণ করা হয়। গ্রামে মানুষ অন্যের বাড়িতে যায় এবং শুভেচ্ছা বিনিময় করে। এভাবে পহেলা বৈশাখ আমাদের বাংলা ঐতিহ্য, শান্তি ও একতাকে প্রকাশ করে।

Khona, originally named Lila, an incredible woman with a gift for predicting weather and understanding the ways of farming. Her wisdom was shared through memorable rhyming verses known as “Khona's Words" or "Khonar Bochon." These sayings, though simple and easy to remember, were filled with practical advice for farmers.
